I've been slacking
I’ve been slacking, and there’s been so many things to write about this week as well (ALA vs the FCC, gaming, site updates, sports, MPR, I could go on).
I’ll try to get back in the swing of things, let’s see where we’ll start.

I’ll try to get back in the swing of things, let’s see where we’ll start.
WordPress 1.5 is officially out, so it’s a good thing I I downloaded a nightly build a week ago to play with it. I’ve updated the site accordingly, and downloaded a few themes to play with as well.
I like the black, but spent two hours playing with the header graphic in GIMP, and didn’t really get anywhere. I’m going to leave the black theme up for now to see how I really feel about it. If I like it, I’m going to heavily modify it, including adding the links & meta back, probably adding a second column for that stuff, and seeing what I can do with the header graphic.
Mom & Dad came up to visit, with Dad coming up to box out the basement in preparation for getting the ceiling drywalled. Spent all of Saturday, and half of Sunday working in the basement getting the soffits built and put up.
Now it’s time to get some tinning done from the heating & cooling guys, finish off the electrical, get the insulation up and then have the drywallers in. Need to get it all done ASAP so we can get the drywallers in before the new housing construction season starts.
It was a good way to finish off a fairly lazy vacation with some good old-fashioned hard work.
Vacation is half over and I haven’t done a damn thing. And I like it.
Lots of playing WoW, and I have worked on the server a bit (damn DHCP and firewall giving me errors).
I’ve also aggregated all of my music onto one machine, which will lead me to cleaning some hard drives and installing linux on one of my other PCs. That machine will have rsync automated to back up the master collection on the server so I won’t have to worry about another hard drive crash.
Back to more vacation.
I want to dedicate two nights a week to programming / web development. Unfortunately, with the 3 machines I have here at my desk, my Windows box is the only one really set up for any type of long term typing.
The problem is I’m used to Bluefish on linux, and recently I also tried Screem, which was equally impressive. Jedit on Windows is just plain ugly, and feature lacking, and there really aren’t any other good open source alternatives I’ve found. I need to get off my butt, get my server sorted out so I know how many hard drives I really have (and work), and pop one in my gaming box so I can dual boot.
So much work to do, so little time.
In other news, Matt came over this weekend, and we’re 90% done with the electrical wiring. Get the ceiling boxed out, fnish the wiring, get the insulation in and we’re ready for the drywall! I need to keep the momentum going with the basement, so I don’t stall anymore.
And the trend continues of taking websites down and bringing them up.
This time, I’ve moved my blog from silwenae.net to the newly created paulcutler.org. Why you may ask? I wanted to try out nearlyfreespeech.net in preparation for moving hosting companies. That’s a different discussion topic all together. Thanks to Fazin once again for the technical support in making it happen this morning.
So much stuff to blog about since the downtime: MPR’s new radio station, politics, Packers meltdown, and the Badgers too, books, and other stuff. More to come soonish.
I also have a technical blog running on silwenae.com with updates on my travels and travails through my servers.
I’ve been meaning to write this for the last day or two, but I went out lunch Thursday to a Vietnamese restaraunt, and had Pho for the first time. Pho has been on my list of things to try since I joined the respective mailing list.
A Vietnamese soup, quite popular in the US as well, Pho is one of the few Vietnamese dishes not served family style.
Typically made with beef, it’s a soup served in a large bowl with rice noodles, beef, and a number of assorted spices. This particular restaraunt had it’s choice from beef, meatballs, tripe, beef strips, rare steak, and a few others I can’t remember. On the recommendation of the waitress I had the beef and meatballs. It was excellent – can’t wait to fnd another restaraunt to try it out.
Lots of pictures uploaded, 70+.
