Take back the web!
I’ve been meaning for a while to blog about Mozilla’s Firefox . A week or two back they released 1.0 Preview Release 1, and it blew away their previous version. The built-in RSS reader is worth it alone.
Tabbed browsing, built-in Google search bar, built-in pop-up blocking, and most of all, speed. This is true innovation in software development.
They had a goal of 1 million downloads in 10 days, and almost doubled that. Even a few friends of mine who aren’t aware or believe in the open source movement use Firefox. This is the kind of application that will educate people to the beauty of open source.
Back from Hell-ay
Back from LA, good trip.
Beautiful weather (mid 80s, 60 at night). Stayed at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood, next to the Kodak Theater and Mann’s Chinese Theater. That was pretty cool being next to where the Oscars take place, and the famous movie theater. I remember the pictures of the Chinese Theater in ’77 when Star Wars opened.
Nice to be home, if still a little jet lagged.
Off to La-La land
Be back in a few days.
There and back again
Drove to Green Bay and back today… to watch the Packers self-destruct againt their arch-rival.
Blah.
More Video Games
Purchased ESPN NHL2k5 and Fable yesterday. Tried to buy Fable Thurs. night, but they were already sold out.
Fable is pretty cool. Some of the combat controls take some getting used to, especially spells, but the story is cool so far.
NHL2k5 is suprisingly good. NFL2k5’s Crib feature blows NHL2k5 away, NHL2k5s is a dumbed down version. You still have challenges and can buy stuff, but from a room and item perspective, it’s not even close.
I am enjoying it, though I need to tweak the settings. I beat Vancouver 2-1, and the Stars 3-1, but most of the games end up being about 5-2. My shots on goal are averaging almost twice the opponents. Presentation, Sound, Graphics are all 10/10. The reflection of the ice at the start of periods after the zamboni is there is amazing – you can see the reflection of the scoreboards, and it’s a beautiful thing.
Helping Kelly build shelves today. My version of helping is watching the kids.
Off to Lambeau tomorrow.
World On Fire
This is amazing – World On Fire.
This is what the internet is about. This is freedom. This is communication. This is innvovation.
This is beautiul.
Go Howard!
Check out Howard’s Stern website!
He’s a little pissed at the Bush Administration, and urging folks to register to vote. His entire front page is dedicated to his effort.
I listened to Howard when I lived in Philadelphia, and enjoyed his show (though he has so many commericals…), and listened off and on for the brief time he was on here in Minnesota.
What’s interesting to me, is that I would assume his listener base would tend to vote Republican. This isn’t new for him, the last 6 months to a year he has been railing against the administration, especially after the Clear Channel debacle around the FCC fines when Clear Channel dropped him on a handful of stations (he’s distributed by Clear Channel’s largest competitor, Infinity).
It will be intriguing to see what impact this may or may not have on the general election.
McKenzie's back!
ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli is reporting that Mike McKenzie will report to the Green Bay Packers Wed. morning, ending his holdout.
He is still seeking a trade, but is hoping a shift in strategy (by reporting to work) will help his case.
Even with a very good performance Monday night by the Pack, it will be nice to have him back.
